Peter Truckle and Andrew Judd

Peter Truckle

peter-truckleWiltshire born and bred Pete started fishing when he was eight years old. His early exploits were on local rivers and lakes much like the rest of us. A few years into his angling career he met up with a fellow from another part of the country who arrived at his local lake to fish for carp. This was all new to a young Pete who checked up on this stranger every day of his session and he soon caught the carp bug.

In his early days, like many of us, he was fishing for doubles with an outside chance of a bigger fish. He fished many of the well known 80's and 90's waters such as Farlows and Horseshoe. He even got on the front cover of the Anglers Mail with a 20lb+ common. Such a fish wouldn't get a mention now - things have changed beyond all recognition since he started his carping career.

Some 25 years ago Pete decided to try his luck abroad and he has been quite successful too with commons to over 44lbs and mirrors over 55lbs. Pete visits France some 6 to 8 times every year and counts lakes such as Cassien, Rainbow and Madine amongst his favourites. Madine will obviously be remembered fondly because this is the lake that he, and his mate Andy Judd, took top spot in the 2008 World Cup Classic with the record weight of 309 lbs. In fact such was their dominance between them they caught more than 50% more than the lads in second place.

We at Mistral are extremely pleased to have helped Pete and Andy and we look forward to the defence of their crown next year.

Andrew Judd

andrew-juddI started fishing at the age of 8 on the river Bourne for Grayling and Trout. At 12 I was old enough to join Salisbury & District Angling Club and started to fish for all the usual lake fish, Tench, Bream and Roach etc.

One night when I was 15 whilst fishing and eating a pork pie, I cut out a cube of meat from the pie and side hooked it on a size 10 gold strike hook and cast to an over hanging bush on the island. When my bite alarm went off I expected a Tench. After a good long fight I landed my first ever carp of 16lb and 3oz which remained a club record for a Mirror Carp for two years, that was in 1978. That fish started my carp fishing craze.

I moved onto bigger lakes around Wiltshire and Hampshire and caught many fish, quite a few up to mid thirty's. I then entered the world of French Carp fishing on lakes that at the time looked like inland sea to me! After ten years of fishing many different lakes in France it has become the norm now, I have caught Carp in their 30's, 40's and 50's using Mistral quality baits over the years, culminating in winning this years World Carp Classic at Madine with my fishing partner Pete, it doesn't get much better than that! Of course Mistral Baits played it's part in our record catch of most weight of fish and most ever caught in the World Carp Classic ten year history! We hope to defend our title next year at Lac Madine, maybe we'll see you there. TIGHT LINES
