I’ve been fishing now for around 30 years. Starting at the age of 7 with my father, while he was catching roach and perch I was catching sticklebacks and bullheads from a local stream.
I’m a north-east based angler living in a small village just outside the city of Durham.
So fishing for specimen fish is a task in itself as we don’t have the facillities, like other anglers have in the south. I often have to travel long distances at a time in search for that one magical fish.
My local river Wear is no exception as it holds some cracking fish. It still holds the british record dace and other species like roach, chub and barbel can be caught to good weights.
I match fished for around 10 years before moving on to specimen fishing 8 years ago. And in that time have caught some really nice fish.
I like to experiment with baits and flavours. Just to try and outwit the bigger fish in the shoal. But just being on the bank is everything to me, rain, snow or sunshine I won’t be to far away from the bankside. The underwater world can throw up so many surprises!
